This edition contains three versions of this work. With a preface and introduction in German and English, and critical report in German. 10 plates.The third and final version is in five movements, and scored for solo voices, mixed choir, orchestra, and organ. The first and second versions contain six movements and are scored for solo voices, mixed choir, and orchestra. An appendix contains two alternate movements from the second version. Composition of the first version began in 1838, and the final version was completed in 1841. The final version was first published in early 1842. It was performed numerous times between its completion and its publishing.
