Gilbert, Henry, (1868-1928.)
In one movement. With a preface in German and English. Gilbert was born in Massachusetts, and studied at the New England Conservatory. This work was composed in 1909, and is the only music Gilbert was able to compose for a planned opera based on traditional African-American folklore. The music draws on three folk melodies. Reprinted from an early edition.
