Composer of the Month July 2022: Theresa Martin

Theresa MartinTheresa Martin (b. 1979) is a freelance composer and musician whose energetic, melodious, and often rhythmically driven music grabs the attention of the audience and keeps performers on their toes. She often draws her inspiration from literature, images, nature, faith, and personal experiences, and she enjoys writing music for soloists, chamber groups and large ensembles. Her music is frequently commissioned by internationally prominent soloists and organizations and performed on university recitals, concerts, and music conferences around the world. She has been recognized by the American Composer’s Forum and the ASCAP Morton Gould and NACUSA Young Composer's Competitions. She received her DMA in composition at the University of Michigan and Masters’ degrees in composition and clarinet performance at Arizona State University. As a clarinetist and pianist, she performs regularly in local ensembles. In a recent online article, she was named one of history’s top 100 female clarinetists. She is the Wisconsin State Chair of the International Clarinet Association. Dr. Martin has a private music studio in Appleton, Wisconsin, and she also appears as guest composer/lecturer at universities worldwide. When not composing, she enjoys reading, being active outdoors, and spending time with her husband, son, daughter and two cats. Her works are published by Verdant Publishing.
