(Recent Researches In The Music Of The Baroque Era‚ Vol. 233)
Middleton: A-R Editions ©2022
This edition presents a parody of Jean-Baptiste Lully's Phaéton with a libretto by Marc-Antoine Legrand. Only the libretto survives, and the editor presents a reconstruction based on the music of Lully, derived from the clues provided in Legrand's work. The work premiered in Lyon in 1694, and touched on the financial anxieties of the opera in that city. With an introduction, text and translation, plates, and critical report.
