Commissioned by and composed for flutists Peter Brown and Karen Johnson and premiered by them at the Univ. of Maryland, College Park in June 1991. Mumford received commissions from the NSO, Virginia Symphony, Fromm Music Foun and in 1994 won the Nat'l Black Arts Festival/Atlanta S.O. competition.
