Inspired by the composer's visit to Shanksville, PA on the 5th anniversary of the 9/11 crash of the United Airlines flight into the mountains nearby. It is a heartfelt elegy, full of compassion for the victims and witnesses. The nine distinct string parts are the same for both solo flute and solo recorder versions. Although a string orchestra is preferred, it could be played with a double string quartet and double bass.
