Erwin (1908-2000) was an organist and composer from Alabama who went to Paris in the early 1930s to study with Andre Marchal, Jean Verd and Nadia Boulanger. Later, he was a key figure in the silent film revival which began in the late 1960s. This book presents letters from Erwin to his family during his time in France, painting a portrait of a remarkable period in American music.
