Haydn and Gluck both considered Kraus to be an original genius, both talented and prolific. He wrote one of the few music aesthetical treatises that can be associated with the literary Sturm und Drang movement. This is one of the earliest surviving symphonies, dating from his Mannheim period, 1768-1772.
