Parker composed this oratorio for the Church Choral Society of New York; it was premiered in May of 1893. The text is from the 12th century poem De Contemptu Mundi, by Bernard de Morlaix, translated to English by Parker's mother. This is a reprint of a 1900 Novello edition. With an introduction.
